'Fall (Autumn) Leaves and Abstract Backgrounds'
1. foam board (or foam pizza tray backing)
2. water colour paint of ink: choose some nice autumnal colours!
3. white wax crayon.
4. black, brown or autumnal darkcolour acrylic paint or block printing ink 5. brushes (for bold work choose a brush that holds lots of water)
7. 220+gms 25xmx25cm paper or card!
8. Jar of water
9. sprinkle of salt
10. black or dark brown block print ink or acrylic paint
Choose some an autumnal colour palette, so reds, yellows, orange (or create your own orange) etc etc. Try to keep the colours clean so no black, grey or white.
Fill the brush with paint and drip onto the paper. Add more colour, and allow the paint to move and blend on the paper. Have fun creating this background, working with water based medium and exploring the colour moving and blending into their own position.
Try not to work in with the brush, to keep the paper intact. Just let the colours do what they want, agitating sensitively with the brush.
Add a sprinkle of salt (I always call this magic dust) to the wet areas, and see what happens!
Make more backgrounds if you would like!
While the backgrounds are drying (and they need to be completely dry), move your paint kit to the side and take the foam board. With the pencil, draw a few leaves and maybe
some spiral shapes, pressing down into the board so you etch and make grooves into the board. Create a few patterns and marks to the shapes and then cut around the edges of the leaf (so you are left with a foam stamp).
Make sure the background is dry
and rub away any salt from the paper. Paint acrylic paint or block printing ink on the foam and have fun stamping all over
your background. Encourage creating a pattern of leaves or random stamps over the paper.
HAVE FUN CREATING!
