Summer workshops for adults are now underway, and if you ever felt the desire to give creativity a go.......there has never been a better time! Creating art is a very effective way to stimulate the brane and anyone can do it. Many are afraid that since they aren't very good at making art, there is no point and they won't get any benefit from doing it. The truth is that at any level, there are therapeutic benefits from doing art, so the first step is not to expect a predictable outcome.
We are all born with an innate desire to express ourselves and art encompasses a wider range of activity, than you can ever imagine. Here are a few ways you can express yourself creatively and benefit from positive mental health to make you a happier, healthier person:Creating Art Relieves StressPainting, sculpting, drawing, printmaking, photography help you to relax and lower your stress levels, leaving you feeling mentally clear and calm. Art can provide a distraction, giving your mind a break from the usual streams of thoughts. We have an average of 60,000 thoughts per day and many of them are exactly the same day in and day out. Total art immersion in creativity can find you in what we artists call 'the zone' or state of 'flow'. You may need to stretch or warm up those creative muscles a bit, similar to if your were taking a yoga class, but you will soon begin to feel the benefits and recognise the benefits!
I will be set up in Bunscoill Ghaelgagh on Tynwald Day, so stop by and have a free try-out, and create your own card - perhaps this will be the first step in your new creative practice!
I am a mixed media artist, art tutor and motivator and live in the Isle of Man, sharing a few things about my life and work! E-courses and online art motivation workshops coming soon!
